Eye Care in Siddha
Eye Care in Siddha :
In this fast-paced digital life, we often tend to forget the health of an important organ of our body, eyes. Vision plays a crucial role in the social and intellectual development of a person. About 80% of the knowledge we gain is through the eyes . So, our existence and status in this universe are directly influenced by the eye. Most eye problems are due to faulty lifestyles like:
- Smoking, tobacco and alcohol consumption
- High fat diet and junk food
- Chronic stress
- Prolonged exposure to bright light from computer and TV screens.
Care of
eye:
When it comes to eye care, Siddhar's have explained various therapies and daily regimen for a healthy vision. Some of them have been listed below,
- Anjanam(Collyrium)
- Kannil Neeriduthal (Application of water in eyes)
- Palagani Paarthal (Traditional pinhole Infraction method)
- Palthulakal (Oral hygiene )
Anjanam(Collyrium ):
"விழிகளுக்கஞ் சன மூன்று நாட்கொரு காலிடுவோம்”
According to Theraiyar, Anjanam has to be applied three days once in a week. Anjanam is something in which the raw drugs is grounded with Anjanakal, herbal leaf juices and ghee and then it is made into a Mai (waxy material).
Example :
- Karisaalai mai helps in promoting the eye sight.
- Leaves of Maadhulai ( Punica granatum ) is baked with cow's milk and applied over the orbit to reduce the burning sensation.
- It helps to increases the Normal blood flow.
- Helps to prevent eye diseases like burning sensation of eye , conjunctivitis, Redness of eye.
- Helps to balance the Kapha dosha.
Do’s and Don'ts during the application of Anjanam:
- Avoid application of Anjanam, during rainy days, Days when you take oil bath, During Menstruation
- After application of Anjanam, avoid the following activities - avoid consuming alcohol, over exposure to sunlight, Heavy physical activities/ physical exertion and avoid day sleep .
Kannil Neeriduthal (Application of water in eyes):
Everyday after having your dinner, clean your hands and put 3 drops of clear water into the eyes and watch the Moon for 20 minutes .It helps to improve the eye sight .
Palagani Paarthal (Traditional pinhole infraction method):
Every day after your dinner, wash your hands and put three drops of clear water into the eyes. Then make your fingers in the shape of a ladder and watch the moon through the whole in it. Then wash off your eyes and pat dry .This helps to improve the eye sight.
Brushing (Oral hygiene ):
The health
of your teeth and gums can dramatically affect your vision. So , Siddhars have
advised to brush the teeth with the stems of Aal , Erukku, Vel , Marudhu etc... Oral hygiene is very much important to maintain your vision.
