Common Name : Wild mustard, Tick weed , Asian spider flower.

Family : Capparaceae

Habitat :Grows throughout India .

Cleome viscosa is an important traditional plant of Indian - Siddha System of Medicine. They have anthelmintic , carminative , rubefacient , stimulant and vesicant propertiesIt has stomachic, diuretic, laxative activity and Anti Anthelmintic, Antipyretic, Analgesic, Anti- inflammatory , Anti-malarial , Anti-diarrheal activities. It helps to remove kapha, Vatha  .

MEDICINAL USES:

ANTIANTHELMINTIC :

  •  2-4 gram seeds of cleome viscosa are grained with sugar and It should be given for two days (BD) and on the third day 17- 34 gram of castor oil should be  given . This helps to relieve intestinal worms .

SPRAIN : 

  • 2-4 grams seeds of the cleome viscosa are boiled and given along with ghee and a pinch of salt it helps to relieve sprain.

ANTIPYRETIC:

  • The decoction made from the seeds of the cleome viscosa can be given to all types of fever and vatha disorders .
ANTI-VATHA:

  • The leaves can be added in sambar ( a south Indian dish ) to treat vatha disorders .
  • The flowers of cleome viscosa are saluted  with ghee and made into paste are used  to treat vatha disorders.
WOUNDS AND ULCERS :

  • The leaves are used as an external application to wounds and ulcers .
EAR ACHE and STYE:

  • The juice of the leaves has been used to relieve earache .
  • The gas evaporated from the crushed leaves are used to cure sty on eye (கண் கட்டி).
  • The paste of the root is applied externally in the treatment of earache .
