MUNPANI KAALAM - DIET AND LIFESTYLE


 

The time taken by the earth to revolve around the sun is named as Perumpozhuthu ,it is divided into six seasons  namely  Kaar kaalam, Kulir kaalam, Munpani kaalam, Pinpani kaalam, Ilavenil kaalam, Mudhuvenil kaalam. We were experiencing Kulir kaalam for the past few months  and from tomorrow Thai 1 (January 14 ) we are stepping into Munpani kaalam which is extends from Margazhi to Thai ( Mid December to Mid February).This transition period in seasons causes various changes in our body and causes severe illness. In order to prevent the occurrence of disease  and for a healthy living ,siddha system has proposed certain modification in diet and lifestyle. 

Transition period:

  • The seasonal conduct from one season to another is termed as transition period ,a period of 14 days (i. e , last 7 days of the ongoing season and and the first seven days of the next season).
  • The seasonal conduct of the ongoing season should be stopped and the regimen of the next season should be gradually initiated during this transition period so as to help your body adapt to seasonal changes.
  • It is better to slowly change the lifestyle in order to prevent the occurrence of the diseases. 

 The following guidelines are advised to get adapted  in Munpani kaalam

Munpani Kaalam :

  • The period between Mid-December to Mid-February .
  • The mankind will be healthy .
  • The nights are longer and there will be a increased appetite in the morning.
Diet and Lifestyle :

Lifestyle:

  • The inner body temperature and appetite is more ( If there is no proper intake of food the samana vayu increases and it destroys the 7 physical constituents of the body )  .


  • To bring down the dearranged vatha to its normal state, preventive measures like oleation therapy (Oil applied all over the body).
  • Use astringent Bath powders and warm water for bath.
  • Fumigation (Pugai)are generally practiced in this season.


  • Exposing to evening sunlight and brisk physical activity until the body sweats are advisable in the evening .
  • Silk and Woolen Bedsheet's are preferable.
Diet:


  • Inippu(Sweet),Pulipu(Sour) ,Uppu( Salt) are preferred taste for this season to neutralize the vatha.
  • Oily and warm foods can be consumed .


  • Sweets like (Paniyaram ) made from Ulunthu (Urad dal), Gothumai( Wheat), Karumbu (Sugarcane) ,Arisi (Rice ) can be consumed.


  • Drinks made from jaggery , Grapes can be consumed.
