The time taken by the earth to revolve around the sun is named as Perumpozhuthu ,it is divided into six seasons namely Kaar kaalam, Kulir kaalam, Munpani kaalam, Pinpani kaalam, Ilavenil kaalam, Mudhuvenil kaalam. We were experincing Ilavenil kaalam for a couple of months and from Aani 1 (June 15 ) we are stepping into Mudhuvenil Kaalam which is extends from Aani to Aadi ( Mid June to Mid July ).This transition period in seasons causes various changes in our body and causes severe illness. In order to prevent the occurrence of disease and for a healthy living ,Siddha system has proposed certain modification in diet and lifestyle. Transition period:
- The seasonal conduct from one season to another is termed as transition period ,a period of 14 days (i. e , last 7 days of the ongoing season and and the first seven days of the next season).
- The seasonal conduct of the ongoing season should be stopped and the regimen of the next season should be gradually initiated during this transition period so as to help your body adapt to seasonal changes.
- It is better to slowly change the lifestyle in order to prevent the occurrence of the diseases.
The following guidelines are advised to get adapted in Mudhuvenil Kaalam
Mudhuvenil Kaalam :
- The period starts from Mid- June and ends Mid- July.
- The west Monsoon sets in .
- The Mangoes get ripen .
De arranged Dhosa:
The kabam subsides and vatham increases and the mankind is liable for all diseases. Diseases due to the de-arrangement of vatham occurs predominantly.
Diet and Lifestyle Changes :
- Sweet , Oily cold foods and quickly digestible food are advised for healthy living during this season.
- Mai Samba ,Erkku Samba, Puzhugu Samba , Kaivarai Samba, Sen Samba , Kallundai Samba , Kurunsamba , Kundasamba , Malligai Samba, Illupaipoo Samba ,Milagu Samba, Jeeraga Samba ,Kaalan Samba , Koodai Samba , Kaadai Samba , Kundrimani Samba are the sixteen varities of samba rice can be consumed during this season for a healthy living .
- Non-Vegetarian Foods Can be consumed in this Season.
- Fruits: Bananas, Grapes, Jack fruit and Pomegranate are good.Panchamirtham an ethnic food of Tamil Nadu is made from the mixture of Banana, Dates, Cane sugar ,Palm Sugar, Honey ,Grapes can be taken in this season .
- Drinking Water:Paadhiripoo and camphor are added to the boiled water and consumed during summer season.
- Morals to be done in this season:One should reside in farm houses with beautiful flowery plants and spend time in cultural activities and avoid alcohol, salt, sour, pungent and hot food. Easily digestible food with sweet taste and oily food.
- Deeds to be avoided during this season:Sour, bitter food and alcohol are to be avoided. Too much exposure to sun and exertion also has to be avoided.
- Sandal wood paste along with camphor is applied on the body for its cooling effects.
- Screens made of vetiver are also used.
- Wear cotton Cloths in this season .
Taste suited for all seasons :
It is good to consume all the six tastes for all the six seasons . But it is desirable to consume the specific taste as mentioned for the each Kaalam (season) specifically .
