The time taken by the earth to revolve
around the sun is named as Perumpozhuthu ,it is divided into six
seasons namely Kaar kaalam, Kulir kaalam, Munpani kaalam,
Pinpani kaalam, Ilavenil kaalam, Mudhuvenil kaalam. We were
experincing Munpani kaalam for a couple
of months and from tomorrow Masi 1
(February 13 ) we are stepping into Pinpani Kaalam which is extends from Masi
to Panguni ( Mid February to Mid April ).This transition period in
seasons causes various changes in our body and causes severe illness. In
order to prevent the occurrence of disease and for a healthy living ,Siddha
system has proposed certain modification in diet and lifestyle.
Transition period:
- The seasonal conduct from one season to another is termed as
transition period ,a period of 14 days (i. e , last 7 days of the ongoing
season and and the first seven days of the next season).
- The seasonal conduct of the ongoing season should be stopped and
the regimen of the next season should be gradually initiated during this
transition period so as to help your body adapt to seasonal changes.
- It is better to slowly change the lifestyle in order to prevent the
occurrence of the diseases.
The following guidelines are
advised to get adapted in Pinpani Kaalam
Pinpani Kaalam :
- The period between Mid-February to Mid-April.
- The south East Monsoon Sets in .
- The Palm an the date fruits get ripen and the cotton plant burst.
Diet and Lifestyle Changes :
The diet and the the lifestyle for Pinpani Kaalam
is similar as Munpani Kaalam.
Lifestyle :
- In Munpani Kaalam (Early winter)
and Pinpani Kaalam
(Late winter) the temperature is
cold and clammy, the night is longer than usual.
- Hence early
raising and oil
bath is mandatory to neutralize Vatha humour.
- On exposure to cold , the skin shrinks and the pores of the hair gets closed it is very essential to maintain the body temperature , so it is very essential to use blankets , footwear to maintain the body temperature .
- It is mandatory to use boiled water for all your daily household needs
- Exposure to evening sunlight and slight work is advisable.
Diet :
- Inippu(Sweet), Uppu ( Salt ) Pulippu (Sour ) are preffered taste in this season .
- Avoid Kaippu (Bitter ), Karppu(spicy ) , thuvarppu (atringent ) and
cold foods.
- Avoid the diet which increases vatham
Don’ts : The place of residence should be free from cold wind and
the food with the taste of bitter , astringent and cold foods should be
avoided
Taste suited for all seasons :
It is good to consume all the six
tastes for all the six seasons . But it
is desirable to consume the specific taste as mentioned for the
each Kaalam (season) specifically .
