KULIR KAALAM - DIET AND LIFESTYLE

The time taken by the earth to revolve around the sun is named as Perumpozhuthu ,it is divided into six seasons  namely  Kaar kaalam, Kulir kaalam, Munpani kaalam, Pinpani kaalam, Ilavenil kaalam, Mudhuvenil kaalam. We were experincing Kar kaalam for the past few months  and from tomorrow Aippasi 1 (October 17 ) we are stepping into Kulir kaalam which is extends from Aippasi to Karthigai ( Mid October to Mid December).This transition period in seasons causes various changes in our body and causes severe illness. In order to prevent the occurance of disease  and for a healthy living ,siddha system has proposed certain modification in diet and lifestyle. 

Transition period:

  • The seasonal conduct from one season to another is termed as transition period ,a period of 14 days (i. e , last 7 days of the ongoing season and and the first seven days of the next season).
  • The seasonal conduct of the ongoing season should be stopped and the regimen of the next season should be gradually initiated during this transition period so as to help your body adapt to seasonal changes.
  • It is better to slowly change the lifestyle in order to prevent the occurrence of the diseases. 

 The following guidelines are advised to get adapted  in Kulir kaalam

Kulir Kaalam :

  • The period between Mid-October to Mid-December.
  • Cool breeze blows in this season and water becomes clear.
  • Nights are longer in this season.
Diet and Lifestyle :

  • In this season the pitha gets dearranged and it also affects other humours of the body. The pitha will be in aggrevated state and the vatha will be in mitigated state.
  • The pitha humour becomes increased because of cold and reduced heat.
  • To bring down the deranged Pitha to its normal state, preventive measures like purgatives with bitter tasted  medicated ghee can be taken in this season .
  • Inippu(Sweet),kaippu(Bitter) ,Thuvarpu( astringent) are preferred taste for this season.

  • The water in the storage tanks will be very clean and it can be used even without boiling.
  • Samba rice, pulses, sugar, gooseberries and honey will be beneficial in this season.

  • Curd, Oil , Fats, Alcohol , oil bath , Daytime sleep , exposure to sunlight , heavy meals, salty diet should be avoided in this season.

  • Use clean and dry clothes.

Application:

Sandalwood paste with Vetiver and Pachai karpooram can be applied all over the body.
