OIL BATH A WEEKLY REGIMEN FOR A HEALTHY LIVING
Siddhar’s have recommended many ways for a healthy living . Oil bathing is one among them. Oil bathing was a traditional method followed by our ancestors in their routine day to day life. It is a important and a practicable method. Siddha is not only considered as a medical system it is a “way of life” which should be followed in our lives for a healthy living. |
Things to know before Oil Bath :
According to
Theraiyar,
“Veerusathur
naatkorukaal neimuzhukkaith thavirom”.
“Ennai
perin venneeril kulzhipom”
1. Take oil bath once in every 4 days.
2. Take oil bath before sunrise or within
3 hours of sunrise.
3. After the application of oil, use
only hot water for bathing.
4. Taking oil bath on Saturday is considered
as best one, by Saturn. Charthurthasi [ 4th Thithi] is
considered ideal for oil bath [as per astrology].
5. Traditionally Saturday for men and
Friday for women is consider as ideal day for oil bath. These days are chosen on
the basis of the energy arriving from the planet which strengthen the human
body both anatomically and functionally.
What type of
oil to choose?
·
Sesame oil is
considered as the best.
·
Sesame oil, Castor
oil, Coconut oil can be used or any medicated oil prescribed by the physicians
can be used.
If the coldness of the oil does not
suits you can add 2 garlic ,and 5 whole pepper with the oil and heat well[the
cold effect of the oil get reduced].
Procedure for
oil bath:
·
Use sesame oil [gingelly oil]. Take the required
quantity of oil in a bowl [ avoid plastic bowl].
·
Take the hot water in a bowl and place the oil contained bowl in it. leave it until the oil gets hot. [Don’t heat
the oil directly on the fire].
·
Apply the warm oil into the scalp and massage it gently.
·
Then put 2 drops of oil into your eyes, nose and 3
drops into your ears and give a gentle
massage.
·
Then apply the oil all over the body especially in the
armpits, navel, groin, anal opening, genitals and throughout the whole body and
massage gently.
·
Give a gentle circular massage over all the joints.
·
Leave it for about 20-30 minutes.
·
Bath in hot water [ as per Theraiyar, “ennai perin
veneeril kulzhipom”] and Wash it off with shikaakai [herbal bath
powder] and dry it off.
Note:
People who have not taken oil bath for long time or years may initially
experience symptoms of cold and flu when they take oil bath. No need to afraid
of that. If the oil bath is followed properly the body will get used to it and
the above troubles will go away.
Do’s and Don’t’s on the day of Oil Bath:
1.
Avoid day sleeping.
2.
Avoid eating old or left food.
3.
Avoid cold food and non-veg [like cold drinks, butter
milk, curd, fish, chicken, etc].
4.
Avoid consuming water content fruits and vegetables [Watermelon,
Ash gourd, Bottle gourd, etc…]
5.
Avoid spinach, more spicy, salty, sour food items.
6.
Take lite food throughout the day [Idly, Idiyappam, Puttu
, Milagu rasam, etc..]
7.
Avoid smoking and alchocol.
8.
Avoid exposure to cold.
9.
Avoid exposure to sunlight.
10.Avoid oil bathduring
rainy days
11.Avoid coitus.
Benefits of sesame oil:

Sesame is rich in vitamin E.

It act is a natural antioxidant.

It has zinc, magnesium, copper, calcium, iron, and
vitamin B6.
·
It helps to strengthen the bones, muscles and joints.
·
Safer for babies and children’s.
Benefits of oil bath:
·
It relaxes and rejuvenate.
·
Relieves the heat from the body.
·
Helps to get deep sleep.
·
Prevents hair loss.
·
Helps to reduce the redness of eyes.
·
Balances vatha, pitha,and kapha.
·
Promotes mental health.
·
Strengthens joints.
·
Promotes hair growth.
·
Prevents many diseases like migraine ,Depression, Stomach
disorders, Diabetes, Sexual disorder, Jaundice, Cancer and other viral
diseases.
·
Gives glows to the skin.
·
Excretes the toxins from the body.
·
Improves immunity.
